Cow Killer

Just imagine seeing this lovely insect crawling toward your toddler. Now imagine that your husband has already identified this huge, fast bug as being called a "Cow Killer" but you don't know why it has that name. Never a dull moment around here!

It is a wingless wasp, also known as a "Velvet Ant." It got it's cow killer nickname because it's sting is so painful it could supposedly kill a cow. Silly me for supposing it was so poisonous it could actually kill a cow - or a toddler.
